OUR HISTORY
The "Binley Colliery Club" was a social club that served the miners of the now-closed Binley Colliery in Coventry, England, and is historically significant to the community. While the colliery itself operated from 1909 to 1963, the club continued to be a part of the community, with local residents even contributing memories of it for an oral history project. A former address for the club is Grange Avenue in Binley.
Social hub for miners
The club was a central part of the social life for the colliery workers, who would socialize and relax there, sometimes after their shifts ended.
Historical significance
The club is a reminder of the area's mining past, which is preserved through projects like the oral history of Binley Colliery, a booklet that compiled residents' memories.
Current status
The Binley Colliery is no longer in operation, and its legacy is remembered in other ways, such as street names and the nature reserve on the former colliery site and now rename Binley Banqueting Suite
